I am learning to: • Explain the significance and meaning of poupou to the Maori and how they were used (why/how is it important?). • Communicate identity through the creation of a personal poupou. • Make effective use of space, shape, form, line, balance and scale in my Maori art. • Use other Maori artists’ work to develop my own ideas. Identify the features of their work.

  3. Poupou • Poupou are the smaller wall posts of a wharenui (meeting house). • The carvings and markings on them reveal the identify of the person represented.
