Child marriage is a deep-rooted issue that is still prevalent across the country. Child marriage constitutes innumerable drawbacks and long-term repercussions that not only affect the respective person but also generations to come. The main factor is that child marriage deprives children of their basic rights. Children are stuck in the vicious cycle of abuse and exploitation, without any access to regular education, and health and nutrition. Poverty in India is one of the main reasons behind child marriage. Inter- generational poverty causes families to engage in this practice to make ends meet, thus creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for girls in the process. To help ease the family’s financial burdens, India’s daughters are expected to shoulder family responsibilities in the years when they should be studying and playing with children of their age. 60% of girls who were married before the age of 15 gave birth before turning 18 years old (Source: UNICEF). Early motherhood causes not only psychological trauma but also severe health issues due to anaemic young mothers or undernourished newborns who do not receive the required nutrition, healthcare support, and timely care. According to NHSF 4 & UNICEF 2017, every 20 minutes a woman dies due to pregnancy or childbirth. These shocking numbers need to be addressed as these women are suffering due to a severe lack of awareness and resources. Despite being against the law, this social evil has continued for many years. Challenges like child marriage and early motherhood prohibit countless girls from realising their goals. Several young girls from marginalised communities lose not only their childhood but also their potential for a happy and prosperous future. CRY, India’s most trusted NGO in India, has been working relentlessly to protect underprivileged girls from child marriage. In 2020–21, CRY has
