  1. This International Day Of Girl Child, Let’s Protect Young Girls In India The 11th of October is recognised as the International Day of the Girl Child. The day is commemorated to raise awareness regarding the girl child and the urgent need to protect all of them. It is time that the many gender-based injustices are brought forth and addressed. Census 2011 data indicates that there are 13 million married adolescent girls between 10–19 years in India. The girl child has so much potential but they are constantly held back. In India, girls are still not offered equal opportunities in terms of safety and protection, regular schooling, or good healthcare and nutrition. Education is one such birthright that is not given to millions of young girls in India. Education is proven to improve critical thinking, which enables the development of more complicated skills. Schools promote more than just academic learning; they are also a hub where students interact with one another, participate in varied extra-curricular activities, develop their self-confidence, and learn leadership abilities. The main purpose of education for girls is to spread the message that women matter and that they must also have access to all of their basic rights. Girls who complete their secondary education have far-reaching benefits, including reduced fertility rates, fewer early pregnancies, healthier

  2. motherhood, lower rates of domestic violence, and a stronger role for women in family decision-making, thus helping bridge the gender gap. But statistics still show a grim reality as 30% of girls in the country finish class 12 age appropriately (Source: DISE 2016–17). CRY, India’s most trusted NGO, has been working hard to protect the rights of children, especially young girls. By collaborating with project partners at the local level, CRY brings about lasting change at all levels. This International Day of the Girl Child, let’s make a real difference in the lives of underprivileged girls who have been held back from realising their true potential. Wait no more to make a real donation to CRY to ensure that girls remain in school, grow up healthy, and are equipped to take charge of their lives.
