  2. Child abuse in India is a horrifying reality that must be addressed and acted upon. Many underprivileged children are in extreme danger and deprived of basic resources, and it is only worsening with time. According to NCRB 2018, 51% of all trafficking victims were children, of which more than 80% were girls. Trafficking takes place in varied forms, including child labour and/or sex trafficking. Census 2011 highlights that 33 million child labourers go to work instead of attending schools. Children from marginalized communities are forced to work from an early age as daily wages are given more importance than education. Children can be seen working at factories where children work for long hours in severely toxic

  3. environments. Many children are placed at brick kilns, agricultural fields, small shops etc. Many begging rackets are run in major cities as well as small towns. There is a 500% increase in crimes against children between 2008-2018, shares NCRB 2018. This escalating issue of children being trafficked, abused, and exploited poses a grave danger to the current generation as well as the future generation of children. Due to poor socio-economic conditions, every year several children are trafficked into slavery, forced labour, or exploitation. This includes kidnapping, marriage, labour, illegal adoption etc. Parents of these children are lured with false promises and are compelled to sell off their children into the sex trade or cheap labour. Traffickers promise many dreams that include a better livelihood, an inflow of money, and a safer future but the reality is far from it. Children are treated as commodities and forced to live in pitiful conditions. There is a severe lack of awareness amongst communities in the slums and other backward regions across the country, and traffickers take advantage of it. Child abuse severely affects a child’s mental, physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. It also denies a child of their basic right to proper education, nutrition, overall health, and safety and protection. underprivileged children are deprived of a positive and fruitful environment where they can learn and grow, thus affecting their social and economic conditions.
