Class of 2011 Senior Project! • By May 2011, each graduating senior must: • Decide on 2 countries: • The one that has most affected you • Your dream destination. • Complete a personal and unique flag using • http://www.wearemulticolored.com • Write a compare and contrast essay using 2 of the countries you chose. • Present your project by creating a PowerPoint presentation including: • The 3 flags of the countries you chose and their meanings • Why you chose those countries • YOUR flag and why you chose the specific features of it

  3. United States of America“My Home” The Red represents valor and the blood spilled for independence. The White represents liberty and purity. The Blue represents justice, loyalty, and perseverance. The 50 stars represent the individual states. The 13 stripes represent the original colonies.

  4. Mexico“The country that has affected me” The Green represents territory and hope. The White represents people, unity, purity, and honesty. The Red represents parenthood and the blood of heroes who died for freedom. The emblem represents an Aztec legend.

  5. Bahamas“My Dream Destination” The Yellow represents the golden sands of the 700 Bahamian islands. The Blue represents the ocean waters around those islands. The Black Triangle indicates the development on land and sea.

  6. The Julanie Flag The Black Triangle with the Yellow Spotlight represents the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. The Overlying Stars represent us, because we are stars. The Green and Red represent our favorite holiday, Christmas. The Blue background represents our blue eyes and the sky, which is our limit.

  7. What is We Are Multicolored?? • We Are Multicolored is a free, simple website that allows you to choose three flags (i.e. where they live, what country has affected them, and their dream destination) to create one flag that is personal and unique to each individual. This tool allows you to express your differences by creating your own flag.

How to Use in Your Classroom… • In 2nd Grade-Strand 4: Geography, Concept 2: Places and Regions, PO 1: Identify through images of content studied how places have distinct characteristics. • In 5th Grade-Strand 2: World History, Concept 5: Encounters and Exchange, PO 2: Describe ways in which Spain, France, and England competed for power. • In 8th Grade- Strand 4: Geography, Concept 2: Places and Regions, PO4: Identify how the role of the media, images, and advertising influences the perception of a place. • In 12th Grade-Strand 2: World History, Concept 1: Early Civilizations, PO 6: Apply the skills of historical analysis to current social, political, geographic, and economic issues facing the world.
