Table of contents • The Kodak Camera • The Telegraph • The Braille Typewriter • The Steam Driven Printing Press • Conclusion • Bibliography Slide • And an Ending Slide
Faith did...TheKodak Camera • Invented by George Eastman • He was an inventor and an entrepreneur • Known for the Eastman Kodak Company • He started his business early in his life • This company was the first to produced standardized photography equipment • This was important because it was an inexpensive box that allowed an individual to take black and white pictures to be able to keep their memories with them • This was also important because people take pictures to prove events: one example was 9\11
Alyssa did… The telegraph • Samuel Finley Breese Morse invented the telegraph • He overheard a conversation about electromagnetism that inspired his idea for the telegraph. He realized that pulses of electric current could convey information over wires. • Telegraph- It required 26 separate wires, one for each letter of the alphabet. (impractical machine at first). Morse reduced the telegraph to only needing one wire. • Between 1832-1837, Morse worked on the telegraph. His first telegraph was unveiled in 1837. • Alfred Vail, Morse’s assistant, invented Morse code. Samuel Morse didn’t invent the telegraph, he made the 1st successful one. • In 1842, Morse convinced Congress to provide $30,000 in support of his plan to “wire” the U.S. In 1844, Morse filed a patent for his invention. By 1854, there were 23,000 miles of telegraph wire in operation.
Cinthia did… the Braille Typewriter • Frank Haven Hall invented the braille typewriter in May 27, 1892 • Braille is a code so the blind are able to study the written words • Braille is a system of touch reading and writing for the blind • People who are blind or visually impaired use these systems • Raised dots represent the letters of the print alphabet • The Hal Braille writer revolutionized Braille communication • Hall never patented the machine because he thought profit would sully his work with the blind • The machine was manufactured by the Harrison and seifried company in Chicago, IL
Rain did… The rotary printing press • Invented by Robert Hoe • Allowed many accurate copies of one item to be made at once • Paper was rolled around a large drum with the ink press correctly placed to print on one part of paper • Dangerous for workers near wheels because they could get their hands smashed • News was given faster and people that didn’t live in city could still stay up to date • Jammed less often then other printing presses or typewriters of the day because instead of a large stamp, the paper was rolled over the ink • Was easier to operate and repair than earlier versions
Conclusion • Communication was important because without many of the advanced communication devices, many people would be left out of society • The Kodak Camera was important because it was an inexpensive box that let people remember their memories and people take pictures for proof (ex. 9/11) • The newspapers created by the press allowed people t know what has happened in other places • The Braille typewriter is important because it helps the blind to be able to type by themselves. • The telegraph was important because it helped people communicate faster.
