  6. Indexing • Keyword -- Each significant word in a field is indexed independently of all other words • Phrase -- The entire field is indexed as a whole. Very exact, precise way to search.

Searching via Boolean • Children and dyslexia • Retrieves records with both children and dyslexia in the record • Dyslexia or learning disabilities (synonyms) • Retrieves records with either term in the record • Clothes dryers not gas • Retrieves records with clothes dryers but not the word gas in the record (excludes concepts/terms)

With/Near • To retrieve terms adjacent to each other with the first term first: computer w programmer • To retrieve terms adjacent to each other, but in any order: furniture n making • Add a number to replace Stopwords • Gone w2 wind = gone with the wind • Ross n1perot = perot, h ross or h rossperot
