  3. :: Today’s Agenda • Edgy Lee and KCC|NMA Alumnus Melissa Fujimoto will be here at 9AM to introduce Pacific Network Television and the final project. • Before they arrive, I would like to talk about the project and go over a few things in after effects so that you can all get started on your final project promptly.

  4. :: Final Project • Logo Design(s) for Pacific Network Television Travel Channel • Client: Pacific Network Television • Contact: Edgy Lee • Brief Intro: • Pacific Network Television is a Native Hawaiian-themed television network of nine channels that will be broadcast on their web site. PNT needs several animated logos. • We will work as a team in an agency environment. • I will art direct. • Each student will be creating at least one logo animation as a 1st draft. After the 1st round we will narrow our designs and share source files and animations across the class. • In the end we will choose the final designs as a group and present our best work to the client.

  5. :: Final Project • Logo Design(s) for Pacific Network Television Travel Channel • Assignment: • In accordance to the design direction requested by the client, Pacific Network Television, using After Effects create a 5-10 second logo animation for the Pacific Network Television Travel Channel that incorporates the provided PNT logo and communicates the brand image of the PNT Travel channel. • We will be working in a team-based design agency environment, where each student will make contributions to the final designs that we show the client at the end of the project. Each student is responsible for creating a 1st draft that is due on April 11th. After that date each student will be given specialized tasks to work on.

  6. :: Final Project • Logo Design(s) for Pacific Network Television Travel Channel • Purpose/Objective: • To go through the full creative design process of creating a broadcast quality logo animation. • To integrate image, text, sound, and motion graphic design into a unified multimedia work of art. • To work as a contributing team member in an agency-based corporate design environment working on a group project. • To effectively defend course work conceptually.

  8. :: Final Project • Logo Design(s) for Pacific Network Television Travel Channel • Technical Specifications: • Set up your AE composition to be NTSC 720x480 .9 pixel aspect ratio. • The total animation for the initial 1st drafts should be no more than 10 seconds. 5-10 seconds is ideal. • All animations must begin with the existing PNT Logo and end with the PNT Logo with the addition of the text “Travel” denotating the PNT Travel Channel.

  9. :: Final Project • Logo Design(s) for Pacific Network Television Travel Channel • Format: There are three major deliverables to the assignment: • Final rendered logo animation(s) – uncompressed .avi’s – to be handed in manually in class via the network or USB flash drive. • We will be presenting multiple versions/iterations for the client: • Safe version • Mid-risk version • Hi-risk version • Toward the end of the project we will also be formatting each animation for multiple uses: • Short form – quick 2-3 second animation to be used in the beginning of a news story, for instance. • Long form – 5-10 second animation – to be used as a longer intro, header or bumper, for instance • Small Form – short and more subtle animation to be used in the lower right corner of the screen as a bug. • Final source files (ie. Photoshop and After Effects files) – to be posted on your class web page. • All logo animations (drafts included) to be posted in FLV (flash video) format on your class web page.

Then do a quick test in After Effects. • Feel free to use the video library and the sound library as assets. • Post your draft(s) onto your class web page (post them as an flv file!)
