  1. Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks (ONT) Module 3: Introduction to IP QoS

  2. Lesson 3.5: Implementing QoS with Cisco AutoQoS

  3. Objectives • Describe LAN and WAN features of Cisco AutoQoS. • Identify the guidelines when using Cisco AutoQoS to implement QoS policies. • Describe the features of the Cisco Security Device Manager (SDM). • Explain how SDM can be used to implement QoS on Cisco devices. • Compare and contrast four methods for configuring QoS on a network.

  4. Cisco AutoQoS

  5. Cisco AutoQoS Features in a WAN

  6. Cisco AutoQoS Features in a LAN

  7. Cisco AutoQoS Use Guidelines • Make sure that: • Any QoS configurations on the WAN interface are removed. • CEF is enabled. • NBAR is enabled. • Correct bandwidth statement is configured on the interface. • Cisco AutoQoS is enabled on the interface.

  8. Cisco AutoQoS Example • Enable Cisco AutoQoS on relevant devices (such as LAN switches and WAN routers) that need to perform QoS.

  9. Cisco AutoQoS Example (Cont.) • interface Serial1/3 • ip cef • bandwidth 1540 • ip address 10.10.100.1 255.255.255.0 • auto qos voip IP CEF and Bandwidth AutoQoS for VoIP Traffic Recognized by NBAR

  10. Cisco Security Device Manager (SDM)

  11. Steps 1 to 4: Creating a QoS Policy 1. 3. 2. 4.

  12. Step 5: Launching the QoS Wizard

  13. Step 6: Selecting the Interface

  14. Step 7: Generating a QoS Policy

  15. Reviewing the QoS Configuration

  16. Completing the Configuration: Command Delivery Status

  17. Monitoring QoS Status 1. A B 2.

  18. Comparing QoS Implementation Methods

  19. Summary • Cisco AutoQoS simplifies and shortens the QoS deployment cycle. Cisco AutoQoS helps in all of the five major aspects of successful QoS deployments. • Cisco AutoQoS simplifies deployment and speeds provisioning of Quality of Service technology over a Cisco network infrastructure. It reduces human error and lowers training costs. • Cisco Security Device Manager (SDM) is an intuitive, web-based device management tool that was created for easy and reliable deployment and management of Cisco IOS routers.

  20. Self Check • What are the requirements that must be met in order to run AutoQoS? • What command is used to enable AutoQoS on an interface? • What traffic classes are supported by SDM? • Which method of configuring QoS is the hardest to implement, requires the most time and offers the least modularity?
