  8. Niagara Falls Niagara Falls is located on the border of the United States and Canada. It is considered one of the natural wonders of North America.

  9. The Formation of Niagara Falls Glaciers covered the Northeast Ice began to melt Melting ice carved out the Great Lakes and the Niagara Gorge The Niagara River plunged into the gorge.

  10. The Appalachian Trail This trail is the footpath that runs along the ridge of the Appalachian Mountain Range in eastern U.S. It is about 2,160 miles long and passes through 14 states. The northernmost end is in Maine. The southernmost end of the trail is in Georgia.

  11. The Mountains of the Northeast The oldest chain of mountains in North America is The Appalachian Mountain Range.It begins in Canada and extends all the way to Alabama. The Green Mountains, named for the forest of evergreens that covered the mountains when the first European settlers arrived, run north and south through Vermont. The White Mountains of New Hampshire extend into the western part of Maine. The snow-covered peaks may have given the mountains their name.

  12. The Catskill Mountainsare about two hours north of New York City. These mountains were carved by glaciers thousands of years ago. The Catskills became famous in the 1800s as a setting for writers and painters. Other Mountains in the Northeast Pocono Mountains- Located in Pennsylvania are known for many spectacular waterfalls Adirondack Mountains- Located in New York have many beautiful lakes(Lake Placid is where the Winter Olympics were held in 1932 and 1980) and resorts.

  14. The Northeast Coastline All but 2 states(Pennsylvania and Vermont) share their borders with the Atlantic Ocean. Maine is known for its beautiful shore on the Atlantic Ocean. Along the Maine coastline is Acadia National Park, the first U.S. National Park east of the Mississippi River. Cape Cod is a beautiful peninsula located in Massachusetts. Its location and climate have made it one of the most well-known fishing areas in the world.

  15. Lesson Summary The Niagara Falls area provides not only a natural wonder but hydroelectricity for millions. The Appalachian Mountain Range, the oldest in North America, runs from Canada to Alabama and includes many smaller ranges in the Northeast. The coastline of the Northeast ranges from rocky cliffs to sandy beaches.
