Studio news reader • In every news show, there will be a main studio news reader. This is the person who will introduce the news and each news story. It is important to have one, as this person is the main speaker. This person is often someone older and someone who will have had some experience in speaker publicly and presenting. They will always be in the main news studio, sat normally at a desk or table with either a pieces of paper with a brief description of what they need to say or a laptop. The studio presenter will be dressed smart and can be either female or male. One example of where the main news reader will speak was when ‘Prince George’ was born. The man who was in the studio was telling some facts about background history from previous events that may have been similar to this particular story. The studio news reader also interviewed various different experts and people who were at the scene of the event. (Field reporters.)
Field Reporter • Another type of reporter a news show will have is a field reporter. Normally there is more than one of these types of reporters. These are the people who will go to the location of the news story. They may also be interviewed live with the studio news reader, so that more information can be given about the story. When Price George was born, there were BBC field reporters around both the hospital he was born at and at Buckingham palace. This was so they could report on any new news that may have been said from a member of staff at the hospital and hospital or someone who was in contact with the family at Buckingham palace. It is just as import to have a field report because these are the people who will go to the location, which means the audience can see where the news story has happened/gone on and this way, more information can be found out by local residents and experts.
Links to studio • Links to studio are the interviews they may have on location. For example, live interviewing with a link to the news story. Sometimes, they may include an interview which is between the studio news reader and the location reporter. For example, when the field reporter is at a crime scene, the two news readers will have an interview to give more information to one another. Because the field reporter will find more out from being on location and talking to people involved or witnesses, they will be able to give the most information. Witnesses may also be asked to have an interview like this so they can explain what has happened and there view towards the story.
Interviewing • To make a news show more appealing to audience, interviews will need to take place. Sometimes people may come into the studio to be interviewed, depending on the news story and how long the interview may take. Longer interviews will always be held in a studio, whereas short interviewing and vox blocks can be done on location. Victims, witnesses and experts are the people who are more likely to be interviewed, depending on the story. For example, police may be interviewed on location just to tell some more of the story and what they are doing about it. Someone from the government may come in to the studio, as they are known to be experts on particular stories. Vox blocks will be on location, as they are just quick answers, normally from the general public.
Experts and witnesses • Linking to interviews, witnesses and experts are important, as they can give any background information on the topic or tell more about the story. Experts are often people who have experienced the story for themselves or worked with people who may have been involved in a similar story. Witnesses are equally as important because they may have either seen or been at the scene. For example, witnesses who had been at prince Georges’ birth will be midwifes and members of the royal family. Interviews will these kinds of people will take place after the event because they were there at the time. Experts could also be interviewed about previous events because they will have more knowledge about the royal family than some of the witnesses.
Reporting schedule • Before a news show, the way in which the show is set will be planned. For example, the way the news show will be ordered. Many news shows will set it as the main story first, because it is the longest story and it will need to be talked about the most. Main stories will include interviews, field reporters and actual footage. Smaller news stories will take place after. Some may have field reports, and others will just include actual footage over the top of the studio reporter. The structure of a news show will need to be done because in order for the news to make sense and for all the news stories to take up the given time, it will need to be structured correctly.
Actual footage • Actual footage is the footage that is used for overlaying. Camera crews will go out onto the location and film some quick footage which will then be added in when the news is going on. This could be birds eye shots from up above the locations, panning shots of the place or zoomed in shots of the location. These types of shots are important to add in because the viewers can now see the location. For example, flooding is a big issue in the UK at the moment, and the flooding has effected different places differently. Adding birds eye shots will show the audience the destruction and issue people may be facing.
