  11. Thesis Where is my thesis? 1. Reread the question 2. Your thesis must include specific information that responds to the question What

  12. A Good Thesis Your thesis is worth one point! Woo Hoo! One point! • Specifically addresses the terms of the question • Sets up the structure for the rest of the essay

  13. The flow of the silver trade in the mid-sixteenth century was both a blessing and a curse for the people of all classes in the regions of Europe, the Americas and Asia. The silver trade provided internal economic and social strife, particularly for those of the lower classes. However, in terms of global interactions, the silver trade provided considerable economic benefits for those who had silver resources and hardships for those countries that did not.

  14. You MUST Analyze I MUST Analyze! Do not list! List Example: The global flow of silver has hindered the development of indigenous people as can be seen in documents 4, 5, and 6.

  15. ANALYZE! The global flow of silver has hindered the development of indigenous people in several ways. The subjugation and forced labor of the South Americans silver mines (doc 4) did not allow them to develop socially because they could not participate in any native institutions. The mass slaughtering of the Japanese (doc 5) show how oppressive the government was under the Tokogowa; people had become afraid to interact and did not develop at the same rate of the European counterparts…

  16. POV • Does the occupation of the author give the doc credibility? • Does class, gender, background, or religion influence what is mentioned? • Type of doc effect credibility? • Journal • Private Letter • Public Address • Timing • Intended Audience • Tone (sarcastic, triumphant, haughty) POV POWER!

  17. Additional Documents Documents Additional? An additional document by a Chinese merchant that described that manner in which trade was conducted would be helpful because it would give insight on how the flow of silver was effecting this class of people. Make sure it is realistic! Like a talking cat.

  18. It is not cheating…just being smart! Strongest paragraph (END) Weakest paragraph (Hide it in the middle) Average paragraph (Start w/ it)

  19. If this fails… just click your heals and say..”there is no place like home!” • Paragraph One- Thesis ANSWER THE QUESTION • Paragraph Two- Average paragraph • Explain grouping • POV on docs • Additional doc • Paragraph Three- WEAKEST paragraph (try and hide it- it works!) • Explain grouping • POV on docs • Additional doc • Paragraph Four- STRONGEST paragraph (they will think you are smart!) • Explain grouping • POV on docs • Additional doc

  20. I promise after I write the DBQ… I will forget all of this!
