  1. Sam Stone (Souvenirs Version) • Notes: • This TAB isn’t note-for-note because, unlike songs such as Blue Umbrella, John doesn’t use a consistent 8-eighth-notes-per-measure picking pattern. Some measures follow his usual Travis-style picking pattern but others have fewer notes and, as a result, a slightly different timing. I tried to capture some of that in the intro tab but my ear isn’t good enough to pick up exactly what’s going on through the rest of the song. If you can pick it up note-for-note, please post it or e-mail it to me. I’d love to see it. • Capo 2nd fret (standard tuning) to be in tune with the version that John plays on the Souvenirs disk. • In the verse, make sure to play the first line twice before going to the second line. At the end, the second time, John has a very cool-sounding riff that I can’t duplicate. Sorry about that. • I tabbed 16 bars in the Chorus section. After those measures, at least after the first verse, John plays 4 more measures that I don’t have. Again, sorry about that and, if you have them, I’d love to see them. • After the first verse and chorus, on the Souvenirs version, the electric guitar comes in and makes it impossible to hear John’s finger picking note-for-note anyway. I’m not trying to make an excuse for my tin ear though. • I didn’t include the lyrics because it was all I could do to fit the tab on one page. If you’re interested in learning this song, you probably know the lyrics anyway  • Hope you enjoy this one.
