  5. Why refresh the campus site? • Optimize the use of space • Header • Layout of page elements • Links to audience-based websites • Evolve the design to fit with campus-wide templates both aesthetically and technically • Leverage the common Cascading Stylesheets (CSS) • Sets the stage for continuous improvement • Allow for flexibility to feature things on the home page that may change monthly/quarterly, • Current initiatives, social media, frequently accessed pages, etc.

Refresh Guidelines • Refresh would be a design refresh not a content and information architecture change • Generally keep the same elements in roughly the same location • Minimize any impact to UCPA for updating home page • Refresh would include • Home page • Explore/Learn/Apply content • Search and People Directory decorators • (News sites)

Current Status & Next Steps • May: Launched new m.ucsd.edu • Promoted via campus-wide email, Blink, ThisWeek@UCSD • Home page now redirects mobile-users to mobile version • Future apps: • June: My TritonLink (SSO) • Fall: Dining (Restaurant locations, times & menus) • Retrofit Libraries to use the framework • KSDT Radio • Alumni • Search • Launch Apps that point to m.ucsd.edu functionality • iPhone/iPad • Android • Work with UC’s to evolve framework to support additional functionality • Global navigation for websites • Customizable home screen

  19. UCSD Mobile evolution • Near term, UCSD Mobile is a collection of “tools” that are optimized for mobile devices • We need to evolve to include both tools and content that all audiences may be seeking • Additional functionality to be released in framework to allow user customization

Proposed Guidelines • To be linked from m.ucsd.edu or a subsequent category • App’s content is relevant to the campus community • App is using the UCSD Mobile Framework • Need to retrofit Libraries and Shuttles • App is hosted in a secured environment that is monitored, has backup and recovery. • CWSC approves the addition in a majority decision

  21. UCSD Mobile taxonomy proposal • Working group develops future taxonomy • Taxonomy is reviewed at next CWSC • New apps move in under approved taxonomy • One offs are reviewed and approved via email • Working group volunteers?
