  2. “Genre: is the term for any category of literature or other forms of art or entertainment, e.g. music, whether written or spoken, audio or visual, based on some set of stylistic criteria. Genres are formed by conventions that change over time as new genres are invented and the use of old ones are discontinued. Types of genre: a) Interview:An Interview is a process for obtaining information, a story or a response a.1) Structure: • Background information to avoid questions about well-known facts• Clear idea of the purpose of the interview• Carefully prepared questions• Ask questions in an appropriate manner• Record and interpret answers• Identify key points• Reconstruct the results

  5. b)Profile: gives information about a person, movies, buildings, actors, actress, famous or not can do a profile. b.1) Structure: the most common lay out is a list of questions, direct, personal ones, professional and so one. b.2) Example: Name: Justin Timberlake What is your favorite dish? Hamburger with fries. What type of car do you prefer? Lamborghini.

  6. c) List: put a theme in topics or in order. c.1) Example: I will do a hot dog I going to need: - bread; - sausache; - corn; - tomato’s sauce; - mayo; - ketchup; - mustard; - potato for French fries.

  7. LET’S START THE ACTIVITIES!!! A) 1ft: - be in pairs; - read the interview in silence; - read with your partner, one will be the hostess and the other will be Justin Timberlake (JT). - exchange the characters; 10 min

  8. B) 2nd: - make a profile about your favorite American idol, it could be a cartoon or a character, you choose! - se internet to look for examples of profiles and information about your idols. - site suggestion: www.google.com.br www.tmz.com 20 min

  9. - this profile you will send to our email: intermlevel@gmail.com, so you must do it on computer. - you and your partner will change it to each other, correct it and give it back to the owner. He/she will correct and send it to me. - each student will write 5 question to ask to their American idol. The pairs will exchange it and make the questions to the person who wrote it. ( send it to our email too) - last but not least do the task behind JT interview, p.26. 10 min

  10. C) 3rd: now we will listen JT’s interview. - pay attention at the vocabulary, write know and unknown worlds; - with these words make a personal glossary using the dictionary for help. - try to notice the accent and pronunciation. 20 min

  11. D) 4th : after the listening activity ask the students to make an exposition about the theme idols and genres characteristics. • each pair will give an example of different genres. E) 5th: Feedback moment: 1)What did you learn today? 2) Is was well explained ? 3) Could you identify a type of genre and its characteristics? 4) Could you tell me if an interview genre can be subdivide in other genre? 5) Do you have a suggestion about the next genre we will work with? 10-15 min

F)6th: Evaluation: - 2 groups of 4 - both groups will create a talk show with their profiles and the 5 questions and will perform to class. - each group can have hostess, guests, audience, telephone or online participation, and … BE CREATIVE!!! - use our email to communicate to your partners and with me (teacher!!!) GOOD LUCK!!! next class
