What have we seen today • Capacity building is a necessity for effective O&M and sustainable water supply and sanitation systems. • Many O&M problems have some element of technical deficiencies but a diagnosis of these problems often points towards other issues related to the management of the utility. >> performance monitoring, organizational strengthening and institutional reforms

  3. Operation and maintenance Network is A collaborative effort between the National Institute of Public Health (Japan), IWA and WHO supported by an extensive network of technical experts and sector specialists. The OMN addresses the need for improved O&M of water supply and sanitation systems, with particular emphasis on the conditions of low and middle income countries.

  4. What is the purpose? To enhance the sustainability and cost effectiveness of investments in water and wastewater infrastructure via better operation and maintenance and improved management.

  5. How does it address needs? • Provision of technical and managerial support for water and wastewater operators, NGOs and government agencies (technical advisory service) • Preparation and dissemination of technical information (practical tools, guidance manuals). • Organization and facilitation of workshops and WOPs for learning and exchange of expertise
