  4. So…. What is political ideology? Definition: A set of ideas and beliefs that one can apply onto policies and events; one’s political “moral code” or world view

  5. Liberal vs. Conservative

  6. The political spectrum(The circle) The farther you travel away from the center (left/right or top), the more extreme your political veiws are seen and, thusly labeled. The points of the circle come close to touching but do not quite touch because if radicals or reactionaries can look very similar.

  7. Left vs. right???? • LEFT • More Government Involvement • RIGHT • Less Government Involvement Government would allow anyone who obtains a permit to own a gun B. Government would require background checks and determine who can own guns

  8. Typical liberal thoughts • Political and social reform • Increased federal services • Government intervention in economy • Consumer protection • Environment • Rights • Less Military • Typically anti-death penalty • Typically pro-choice

  9. Typical conservative thought • - Large powerful government = threat to citizen freedom • Smaller government • Limited government involvement in economic issues • Social problems should be dealt with on a smaller scale • Military power • Tends to connect religion into politics • Tends to be anti-abortion • Tends to be pro-death penalty
