CARLA—The Basics • CARLA is the acronym for the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition • Mission: To improve U.S. national capacity to teach and learn languages effectively • Means: Provide accessible resources and professional development for second language educators and administrators, K-16

  3. CARLA—The Basics • CARLA began in 1993 with funding from the U.S. Department of Education • One of 15 USDE Title VI Language Resource Centers (LRCs) • Currently in its 6th cycle of LRC funding
