  2. Review: Just like with the 'ar' sound, the r makes the short 'i' sound stretch a little. Example: girl, whirl, third, and bird. Good readers use clues that the author gives them and what they already know about the topic to draw conclusions and infer.

  7. Good Readers: Recall and Draw Conclusions Think about the characters. Think about where the story takes place. Think about the problem in the story and how the characters solve it. Think about what happens in the beginning, middle, and end.

  9. Good Readers: Recall and Summarize Annie and Jack follow the monkey into the forest and find a baby jaguar. The angry mother jaguar came towards Annie, but the monkey pulled its tail and they got away.

  10. Good Readers: Recall and Summarize The Farmer and His Sons By: Aesop First Next Last The old man told his sons he buried treasure somewhere on the farm. The sons dug everywhere but did not find treasure. They realized hard work and land was the treasure when they had a great harvest.
