  1. DELAWARE GUIDANCE SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH INC. ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM

  2. Our Mission To provide quality mental health services for children, youth and their families. We believe that all children have a right to good mental health and should have access to quality therapeutic care, regardless of their ability to pay.

  3. ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM RATIONALE: • Shortage of Behavioral Health Professionals in DE • Most severe in Kent and Sussex Counties • Diversity of clinicians also an issue (Race, Ethnicity, Language, etc.) • Newly licensed clinicians often lack adequate training/experience/competence in clinical work

  4. ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM GOALS: • Create two year Advanced Training Program for clinicians graduating with a masters degree • Provide Clinical Seminars, Intensive Supervision, and Clinical Experience to develop knowledge, skills, competencies and breadth of clinical experience • Program Graduates are ready to become licensed and practice competently in Delaware’s provider system

  5. ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM PROGRAM DETAILS: • Trainees recruited from area graduate schools. Diversity and interest in long-term employment in Delaware considered in selection process. • 6-10 new trainees admitted to DGS Advanced Training Program each year • Trainees employed by DGS on full time basis (salary, benefits, etc.) at our five sites in Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Lewes and Seaford • Trainees carry a caseload of 18 clients per week

  6. ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM • Training Activities: Seminars: 3-5 hours per week Ind. Supervision: 1-2 hours per week Group Supervision: 1.5 hours per week • Supervision includes live supervision, supervision of recorded work, role plays, description of work • Supervisors participate in Supervisors Group to ensure quality of supervision and refine program process • Trainees receive ongoing evaluation and regular feedback. At end of first year, trainees in good standing are invited for second year

  8. ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM • RESULT: • Every year 6-10 clinicians graduate and enter the workforce ready for licensure and employment in Delaware’s behavioral Healthcare System

  9. ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM • Program Needs: • Medicaid reimbursement for trainees’ work under signature of Licensed Supervisor • Education Loan Repayment Program eligibility for trainees during their training at DGS Advanced Training Program • Start up funding
