Jewish Titles • Rabbi: a teacher of the Torah • Pharisee: emphasized strict interpretation and observance of the Mosaic law in both its oral and written form. • Scribe: an educated class who studied Scripture and served as a copyist, editor, teacher and jurists. • Sadducee: maintained the Temple, regulated relations with Rome, collected taxes, presided over sacrifices • Sanhedrin: a council made up of Pharisees and Scribes, they decided to have Jesus arrested and sent to Pilate to die
