Tip #1: Screen Zooming • Hold down control or ctrl key • Put two fingers on the trackpad at the same time • and move your fingers toward the screen to zoom • in • Move your fingers toward you to zoom back • More on visual enhancements in • http://www.apple.com/accessibility/macosx/vision.html • and in Kristen Eichleay’s Top Ten Tips for UDL

  3. Tip #2: Text to Speech 1. Text to speech allows you to highlight text and have the computer speak it to you 2. See Kristen Eichleay’s Top Ten Tips for UDL for directions to enable

  4. Tip #3: Screen Capture • Useful for getting screen images for training and • instruction • 2. Command-Shift-3 to capture the whole screen, • or Command-Shift-4 to enable crosshairs to capture • part of the screen • 3. Can also do Command-Shift-4, then space bar to capture or “Grab” a particular window, and then click the space bar to capture that particular window • 4.   5. Tip #4: Spotlight 1. All the files on your MacBook are indexed and searchable. Even words within documents are searchable 2. To search click on the magnifying glass at the top of the screen and type in a keyword 3. Try to save your Office documents in My Documents or Documents (or somewhere on your Mac environment) as docs on the Parallels desktop aren’t searchable by Spotlight

Tip #5: Videoconferencing • You can use either iChat or Skype • Sign up for an AIM account at http://www.aim.com to use iChat (blocked in the BPS network) or Skype at http://www.skype.com • iChat can also be used with a Mobile Me account if you have one • 3.   7. Videoconferencing Caveats • Be careful. You can get spammed in iChat or Skype (tends to happen more in Skype, in my experience) • 2. You can block people in iChat by going to the • iChat menu, Preferences, Accounts, Security, • and entering the person you want blocked • 3. You can block people in Skype by going to the • Skype menu, Preferences, Privacy, and Manage • Blocked Users

  8. Tip #6: Quicklook • Single-click on an Office document, PDF, or movie. Then press the space bar and it will give open up automatically to give you a preview of that document • In the Finder, if you choose the “Coverflow” view of a folder you can quickly scan through documents and then also press the space bar to get a Quicklook view

  9. Tip #7: Widgets • Widgets are mini-applications which can be quickly brought up by hitting your Dashboard button (F4) on your keyboard • 2. You can install Widgets in your Dashboard after you enter it by pressing the “+” button on the bottom left corner of the screen, or go to http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/ • to install more
