  8. Definitions • Category IIIa Operations • ILS approach and landing: • No DH, or a DH below 100 feet (30 meters), and • Controlling runway RVR NLT 700 feet (200 meters) • Category IIIb Operations • ILS approach and landing • No DH, or a DH below 50 feet (15 meters), and • Controlling runway RVR less than 700 feet (200 meters), but not less than 150 feet (50 meters) • Category IIIc Operations • ILS approach and landing • No DH limitation and • No RVR limitation

  9. Definitions • Controlled Airspace • Airspace of defined dimensions where air traffic control service is provided to IFR flight and to VFR flights in accordance with airspace class • ETOPS • Flight Crew member • A pilot, flight engineer, or flight navigator assigned to duty in an aircraft during flight time • Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD) • A flight simulator or a flight training device

  10. Definitions • Flight time • Pilot time commencing when an aircraft moves under its own power for purpose of flight and ends when aircraft comes to rest after landing • Flight training device • Replica of instruments, equipment, panels, controls in an open flight deck or an enclosed cockpit replica • Foreign air carrier • Any person other than a citizen of the U.S. who undertakes directly, by lease or other arrangement, to engage in air transportation

  11. Definitions • Foreign air commerce • Carriage by aircraft of persons or property for compensation or hire, or mail by aircraft, in commerce between the U.S. and any place outside thereof, such commerce moves wholly by aircraft or partly by aircraft and partly by other forms of transportation • Foreign air transportation • Carriage by aircraft of persons or property as a common carrier for compensation or hire, mail by aircraft, in commerce between the U.S. and any place outside of the U.S., whether that commerce moves wholly by aircraft or partly by aircraft and partly by other forms of transportation

  12. Definitions • Full flight simulator (FFS) • Replica of a specific type; or make, model, and series aircraft cockpit. • Interstate air commerce • Carriage by aircraft of persons or property for compensation or hire, mail by aircraft, in commerce between a place in any State of the U.S., and a place in any other State of the U.S. • Interstate air transportation • Between place in a State and another place in another State • Between places in the same State through the airspace over any place outside that State • Between places in the same possession of U.S.

  13. Definitions • Intrastate air transportation • Carriage of persons or property as a common carrier for compensation or hire, by aircraft capable of carrying 30 or more persons, wholly within the same State of the U.S. • Medical certificate • Acceptable evidence of physical fitness on a form prescribed by the Administrator • Military Operations Area (MOA) • Airspace established outside Class A airspace to separate or segregate certain nonhazardous military activities from IFR traffic and to identify for VFR traffic where activities are conducted

  14. Definitions • Large Aircraft • Aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds, maximum certificated takeoff weight • Night • Time between end of evening civil twilight and beginning of morning civil twilight, as published in the Air Almanac, converted to local time • Overseas air commerce • Carriage by aircraft of persons or property for compensation or hire, mail by aircraft, in commerce between a place in a State and any place in a territory or possession of the U.S.

  15.
