  2. I. What is Unit Analysis • Unit analysis is a technique for converting measurements from quantity to another • For example, you can unit analysis to convert seconds into days, meters into miles, or any other related combination

  3. II. Single Step Problems • Let’s say we want to know how the length of the table is 53.5 inches long, but we need to know how many centimeters that is. • Step 1: Write the number you want to convert as a fraction • Step 2: Find the appropriate conversion in the conversion table • Step 3: Draw a second fraction and line up the units so that they cancel • Step 4: Do the math! • If the number is on top of a fraction, you multiply • If the number is on bottom of a fraction, you divide

  4. II. Single Step Problems • Try solving these conversions • 35.5 m = ______ cm • 23.1 L = _____gal • 65.3 miles = _____ yards • 3,000 s = _____ min

Multiple Step Problems • Sometimes we need to use more than one conversion to get where we’re going. • What if we want to know how many inches are in 10.5 km. • We don’t have a conversion for km to in so we have find a few steps that will get us there • There are two ways to get there • km  mi  yds  ft  in or… • km  m  cm  in (Let’s use this one!)
