  5. Summary of Retaining Wall Height Ordinance Recommendations 1. Zones: Single-family lots (A, RA, RE, RS, R1) 2. Standards:- Maximum height of 12’ OR 3stepped 8’ walls - Backyard retaining walls may not exceed height of adjacent house. 3. Process: High retaining walls that do not comply with standards may be approved by a ZA Adjustment process. 4. Exemptions: - Existing homes that require a high retaining wall, as verified by soils report - Public works - Schools - Public buildings
