  16. Observations • The Bible not only calls the church the bride of Christ, but we are also called the body of Christ. • In John 15, Jesus identifies God as the gardener in a vineyard.

  18. Hosea 1:2-3 • 2 When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, “Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the Lord.” 3 So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. 19. Hosea 3:1-3 • 1 The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.” • 2 So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley. The Holy Bible : New International Version. 1996, c1984. Grand Rapids. Zondervan.

  20. Hosea 3:1-3 • 3 Then I told her, “You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will live with you.” The Holy Bible : New International Version. 1996, c1984. Grand Rapids. Zondervan.

  21. God’s Forgiveness Is Not a License to Sin • As Paul himself would ask, “Shall we sin so that grace may abound?” • Then He answers his own question, “By no means!” • We should want to be a pure, spotless bride because He loves us.

  22. Jesus Has Made His Bride Holy in Two Ways • He has cleansed us through the washing of water. • He has cleansed us through the washing of His Word.

  23. Psalmist said… • “Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.”

  24. Philippians 1:9-10 • 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, The Holy Bible : New International Version. 1996, c1984. Grand Rapids. Zondervan.

  25. 2 Corinthians 11:2-4 • 2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. The Holy Bible : New International Version. 1996, c1984. Grand Rapids. Zondervan.
