  3. Elizabethan Clothing • Law was enacted to establish what social classes were allowed to wear • Rich were allowed to wear velvet and silk • Poor were allowed to wear wool, linen, or leather

  4. Famous Elizabethan People • William Shakespeare – playwright and poet • Francis Bacon – scientist • Christopher Marlowe – poet • Robert Dudley – Soldier and statesman • Inigo Jones – Architect • Mary, Queen of Scots – Queen of France, Queen of Scotland, father of King James

  5. Women’s Clothes

  6. Women wore up to sixteen separate articles of clothing. • These included: slip, hose, corset, skirt, roll, stomacher, petticoat, kirtle, forepart, partlet, gown, sleeves, ruff, cloak, shoes, and hat.

  7. Men’s Clothes

  8. Men wore up to twelve articles of clothing. These included: shirt, hose, codpiece, corset, doublet, sleeves, breeches, belt, ruff, cloak, shoes, and hat.
