  3. Plot Summary • “The Absolutely True Diary” is a first person narrative by a Native American teenager named Arnold Spirit Jr. also known as Junior. • Arnold is a 14 year old budding cartoonist.

  4. The book is considered to be a ‘bildungsroman’ (a coming of age story) that details Arnold’s life on the Spokane Indian Reservation. • He chooses to leave and go to school off of the reservation and go to school in a town called Reardan in Washington. • The novel has 65 cartoons completed by Ellen Forney, they sometimes act as punchlines to Arnold’s jokes, reveal things about characters and the plot
