  4. What is CWE? • Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) is an applied academic program in which students receive transferable credit for what they learn while working. • All districts must have a ‘District Plan’ for CWE approved by the CCCCO. • Two types of CWE: General and Occupational • General has broader learning objectives • Occupational is focused on skills related to the academic/occupational area • The District provides Worker’s Compensation for Unpaid CWE experiences • Students can earn a total of 16 units of CWE with a maximum of 8 units in one semester

  5. What is CWE? 6. What is CWE? (continued) • CWE can be ‘PAID’ or ‘UNPAID’ • UNPAID experiences must meet the DOL’s 6 criteria test: • Similar to training given in an educational environment • Benefit of the intern • Does not displace regular employees • Not entitled to a job at completion • Employer & intern understand the intern is not entitled to wages during the internship • Source: http://cacareerbriefs.com/wp-content/uploads/DOL-Fact-Sheet-on-Intership-Programs.pdf
