  1. IDS group 13go Green resort @ ubin Leader: Kenneth Yuen 2O232 Members: John Phua 2O225 Joshua Loh 2O223 Emil Lim 2O208

  2. GG Resort @ Pulau Ubin • We plan to build our green resort at the Noordin beach of Pulau Ubin. Our Green Resort! • Our resort will be: • 100m from Noordin Beach • At least 200m away from NPCC Campsite • Around 1.5km from the jetty

  3. Features of our wonderful resort • Flora and fauna of NoordinBeach • Growing more different orchid hybrids near the beach • Growing of mangrove trees to hold the soil near the beach. • Leisure Activities • Sandy beach for engaging volleyball match • BBQ Huts designed for BBQ-ing

  4. Features of our wonderful resort • Beautiful Scenery • Being a waterfront resort, luxuriate in front of the sunrise and sunsets • Solar Heating • 1: Heating water in bathrooms • 2: “Hot Springs” Design near the Abandoned Fishery

  5. Features of our wonderful resort • Cooling • Enjoy the land breeze at night and the sea breeze in the day • Ensure visitors to have a cooling atmosphere at their resorts • Energy-saving light bulbs and fan using FREE electricity Cool eh?

  6. Energy Supply • Solar Panels • NoordinBeach receives abundant amount of sunlight. • Abundant amount of sunlight will ensure more efficient generation of electricity from solar energy. • Hence, we plan to build solar panels on the roof of our “Green Resort”. • Solar energy is a green source of energy. • Although it is quite expensive, it is very cost-efficient because after the solar panels are build, the electricity generated will be free, so it is a kind of investment. • Also, one of the toilets already has it, so it is possible.

  7. Energy Supply • Tidal Barrages • At the Noordin beach, the waves are destructive at an average frequency of 20. • Hence we plan to build a tidal barrage at the sea to generate electricity to run our “Green Resort”. • Tidal energy is renewable and reliable and does not produce any waste so it is very appropriate for our resort. • The tidal barrage also acts as a form of coastal protection to protect the beach from being eroded.

  8. Energy Supply • Gym Facilities • Workout stations such as the Bicycle and the running track will be able to produce electricity through kinetic energy. • In case of rainy days, whereby tourists/visitors have to stay at resort for almost the whole day. • Supplementary Energy Source

  9. Energy Supply • Magnetic Power Plant • Repulsion of the magnets causes the magnets to spin forever. • This can be a power source for every individual unit in the resort. • This can be used to power the Energy-saving light bulbs and the fan. • Main Energy Source

  10. Our Resort will look like this… • REFER TO VISUALISER

  11. Coastal Management • Heavy soil erosion @ Noordin Beach • Beach Nourishment • Cost-effective • Sustainable (Long term protection) • Medium-grained sand from Mamam Beach (Just to touch up the sand at the beach) • Building of tidal barrages/groynesto control the flow of waves hitting the beach

  12. Green Building Methods • Wood/Palm Leaves from Coconut Trees • A certain area of forests will have to be cleared for space to build the resort. • Wooden BBQ huts with palm leaves as roofs • Concrete • The rest of the resort will have to be built using concrete • Wood under the humidity of the island will rot • Prone to termite attacks, requiring frequent replacement

  13. What the trail looks like…

  14. Green Transport • Solar-Powered Buggy • Solar Panels on the rooftops of buggy • Cut down trees grown very near to the road and blocks sunlight • Bicycles • Retain the kampong feel of riding a bike in a village • Cycling to nearby places

  15. Trail Attractions • Ubin Quarry • Biodiversity, e.g. Monitor Lizards awaits you! • Kekek Quarry • With Govt decision of redeveloping Kekek for quarrying activity again • Expose tourists to how quarrying is like in previous days. • Jetty • Enjoy seafood so salty tasty, you can never find in Singapore ! • Abandoned Fishery • Allow tourists to catch their own fish(es)/seafood reared by us and BBQ it at our huts. • ChekJawa/Balai Quarry/Mamam Beach • Tourists given the choice to explore ChekJawa on their own!! • Magnetic Power Plant to be built near the Balai Quarry.

  16. So why us and not the MaMa resort ( Sihao’s group)? • Firstly, Mamam when spelt backwards is still Mamam. (No creativity ) • Trails: • Nature trail Close encounter with cute monitor lizards and dangerousfriendly wild boars. • Unique point of our trail: • Our professional and enthusiastic student-geologists got lost and have found a place with scenic view ! The place is near our resort. • Thus, our nature trail will include this location. • HOWEVER, getting there is not an easy task as the path is laden with muddy pathways and small ‘rivers’.
