  1. Progression of Apostasy Jude 5-7

  2. Jude 5-7 5 Now I desire to put you in remembrance, though ye know all things once for all, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. 6 And angels that kept not their own principality, but left their proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

  3. Jude 5-7 5 Now I desire to put you in remembrance, though ye know all things once for all, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterwarddestroyed them that believed not.

  4. From Faith to Faithless • Hebrew writer warned readers based on the apostasy of Israelites who died in wilderness • Hebrews 3:12-19 • Hebrews 4:11 • Solution: Hebrews 4:12-13 • Same warning in principle applies to all • Romans 11:20-23 • Hebrews 10:36-39 • Apostasy has its origin in loss of faith because it leaves one unprotected (1 Jn. 5:4)

  5. Jude 5-7 5 Now I desire to put you in remembrance, though ye know all things once for all, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. 6 And angels that kept not their own principality, but left their proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

  6. From Order to Disorder • “Kept not their own principality” • “Left their proper habitation” • Parallel passage found in 2 Pet. 2:10-11 • Once faith is diminished, God’s order is challenged & replaced with man’s order • 1 Samuel 13:8-9 ….. 13-14 • 1 Samuel 15:2-3 … 9 … 10-11 … 17-23 • James 4:6-10 • Example: Change in worship, doctrine, org…

  8. From Moral to Immoral • Once faith is diminished & God’s order is changed, moral consequences are sure • Romans 1:18-32 • 1 Corinthians 10:5-11 • 2 Peter 2:17-22 • 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 • Devil uses immorality to turn heart off to good • In society, moral decline is sign of ruin • In church, moral decline signals apostasy • In individual, immorality is final step
