  1. Who should be the boss in a family – the man or woman? Who ought to worry about the family’s health ? Who ought to discipline children ? Who ought to be provide most of the money? Who ought to check children’s school work? Do you HAVE to be male to be the breadwinner? Or female to do the cooking? There is no rule that any of these are specifically “male” or “female” jobs –only social convention. God is a “Father” but not because He is male…

  2. Is God a Father or a Mother? To give evidence for God as a Father or MotherTo evaluate whether God is more of Father or a Mother Clearly, God is a spirit, so He is not “male” or “female” in a biological way. So why do we call God a Father? • He made the world (Fathers make things) • The Bible calls him Father • Jesus called God his Father • We say Our Father in Church • God lays down the law, like Fathers do • When God gets angry, it’s serious and scary • Explain why God is not male (or female) • Bullet point reasons why we call God a Father. • **Can you think of any reasons why God could be called “mother”?

  3. Point C: God is neither mother or father but God is still a personal God Point B: God is like a Mother to us Point A: God is like a Father to us Matthew 23:37 Isaiah 66:13 Isaiah 49:15 • Isaiah 64:7 • Jeremiah 31:9 • Psalm 103:13 • 1. Deuteronomy 32:18 • 2. Hosea 11:3-4 Write out the point. Look up a quote for each point. Explain what the quote is saying, to prove your point (PEE). Conclusion – how is God best described as? Father, Mother or neither? What other evidence can you think of, that will help to decide? **What difference does it make what we call God?

  4. Is God more like a Father or a Mother, or neither ? Could these facts help you in your conclusion? • Jesus taught thatGod is a Father, and Jesus’ teaching should be followed, as he is the Son of God. Father occurs 11,000 times in the bible vs. 102 for Mother • God isn’t either because He is a spirit... Explain what you conclude – is God more like a Father, Mother or neither? Which further fact helps you to decide? Draw who you think God is like.

  5. HW • It is a mistake to call God “mother”. Discuss. • introduction • 2 PEE points for each point of view • a conclusion with a new reason to explain your final opinion
