  3. Think-Pair-Share • What do you think is going to happen to Big Time? • What do we know about Big Time? What is his problem? • How do we know these things about him?

  4. Think-Pair-Share • Does the author ever come right out and say that Big Time has a drug problem? • How do we know that Big Time is a drug addict? • Do you think it is more interesting to learn about a character by having the author tell us directly or by indirect clues? Why?

  5. Listening • Listen to me read aloud from “A Story in Three Parts,” pages 129-131. • Listen to think aloud

Silent reading: page 131-138 • What does Big Time mean when he says that he’d always known the mellowing out would kill him? • Why does Big Time feel good about being scared and hurting on the rooftop during the fire? • Is Big Time a static or dynamic character?
