Organization profile: ASL, the local public health authority Mission of ASL is to ensure population health by: • Defining general and local health policy • Delivering public grants to Hospitals and social services • Managing Primary Health Care (GPs and Pediatricians) • Managing epidemiology data (on mortality, morbidity, cancer registry, drug consumption, use of health services…) • Inspectioning for food safety, security at work, safety of health services… • Providing directly primary prevention • Health promotion • Vaccinations • Social services in collaboration with Municipalities

Logic of operation: Health promotion By setting: • Workplace Health promotion • Health promoting schools • Health promoting hospitals and health services • Healthy cities By Risk factor • Tobacco control programs • Promotion of physical activity • Nutrition programs • Traffic injuries prevention

The Bergamo WHP network • Based on a process of accreditation • ASL selects effective good practice and inserts in a manual (WHP manual) • Companies carry at least 6 good practices per year to maintain accreditation • Measurement of results • Now extended by a Regional Law to all Lombardy Region

  10. The WHP Network The company should develop 6 activities (best practices) in two areas every year : nutrition tobacco physical activity road safety and sustainable mobility alcohol and drugs personal and social wellbeing

Main results of WHP program • 70 workplaces in the provice of Bergamo • Actually 86 in the region • More than 15.000 workers involved • Very high interest from the community • Good effectiveness indicators (reduction in the number of smokers, increased consumption of fruits and vegetables at the canteens, increased levels of physical activity practiced)
