  1. Week 35Crying Out to God for the Young (Lamentations 2:11-19)

  2. Lamentations 2:19 • Arise • Cry out • In the night • Pour out your heart like water • For the lives of your children

  3. Jeremiah is familiar • Jeremiah 1:4-9 Jeremiah’s call as a child

  4. Jeremiah is familiar • Israel forsook God Jeremiah 2:1-2, 51 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem: “This is what the Lord says: “‘I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved me and followed me through the wilderness, through a land not sown…”

  5. Jeremiah is familiar • Israel forsook God Jeremiah 2:1-2, 55 This is what the Lord says: “What fault did your fathers find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves. • As fathers and mothers when we stray from the Lord we change our children’s spiritual trajectory

  6. Why does this happen? • The people of God take His Word very casually • We allow sin to prosper in our midst • We turn inward and just live for ourselves • We lose the burden of the Lord!

  7. Why does this happen? Lamentations 4:1-4 1 How the gold has lost its luster, the fine gold become dull! The sacred gems are scattered at every street corner. 2 How the precious children of Zion, once worth their weight in gold, are now considered as pots of clay, the work of a potter’s hands!

  8. Why does this happen? Lamentations 4:1-4 3 Even jackals offer their breasts to nurse their young, but my people have become heartless like ostriches in the desert. 4 Because of thirst the infant’s tongue sticks to the roof of its mouth; the children beg for bread, but no one gives it to them.

  9. Why does this happen? • The people of God take His Word very casually • We allow sin to prosper in our midst • We turn inward and just live for ourselves • We lose the burden of the Lord! • We cease to be people of prayer

  10. Vs. 19- The Burden of the Lord • It’s TIME to pray! • To awaken and rise up • For those who are not only ‘next’ but ‘now’

  11. Judges 2:10After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.

  12. What can we do?
