The Vision of the NES Library Founded in 1992 • The Idea: Originating from Zvi Griliches and Andreu Mas Colell, the library was established to serve as the core of the newly created graduate school of economics. • The Goal: We strive to support Russian academic programs and scholars, and the unique graduate modern Economics education offered at NES. NES Library & Holdings • Approximately 100 square metersincluding the main office, reading room, and special collections and storage areas. • Over 5,000 individual titles and 7,000 journal volumes including: - The most current economics publications -Contemporary textbookson topics taught at NES, including Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Game Theory, History of Economic Thought, Transition Economics, etc. - Comprehensive study aides for English, and test preparation materials for TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, etc. • All Books are ordered from the leading academic publishing houses, including MIT Press, Harvard Univ. Press, Cambridge Univ. Press, Basil Blackwell, Edvard Elgar, etc.

NES Library Electronic Holdings • An electronic catalogue of all holdings consistent with the International UNIMARC system. • EconLit Bibliography of Economics on CD-ROM, 1969 to present • Various other dictionaries in CD-ROM format • Collection of StatisticalDatafromGoskomstat, IMF, World Bank, RECEP, Institute of Economic Analysis, Institute for the Economy in Transition and other sources NES Computer Laboratory

5. NES Library Special Holdings • The library possesses no less than 50 copies of each of its 95 textbook titles so that every NES student receives on loan a set of textbooks. • For each course the library maintains a database of articles and roughly 50 Xerox-copy course packets of all articles/reading materials for student use. These include holdings for courses taught since 1993. • Excellent Reference Section including the complete series of Handbooks in Economics, Handbooks of Statistics, Palgrave Dictionary of Economics, Dictionary of Money and Finance, Dictionary of Law and Economics, and various other Encyclopedia and Dictionaries • The largest collection of current international economics periodicals in Russia, including annual subscriptions to over 50 titles from 1994 to present, and a collection of older journals published from the 1930s to present thanks to generous private donations.

6. NES Library Cooperative Links • Contracts for continued and formalized cooperation and sharing exist between the Library of the Moscow School of Social Science, and between the libraries of the Moscow offices of the World Bank, the United Nations, and the OECD. • Continued Growthcontinues towards the creation of a truly multi-media center through the expansion of space and holdings.
