  1. #82 Warm UP Name 2 BODY SYSTEMS and their functions. • TAKE OUT • CELLS Practice Packet

  2. NAME THAT DIAGRAM!!!

  3. Organs and Functions Each system has its own function and most systems work together to maintain homeostasis Single-celled organisms DO NOT have body systems, they use their organelles Homeostasis Keep levels normal and balanced (dynamic equilibrium) Feedback Mechanisms Blood-glucose, temperature, guard cells/stomates Body Systems Review

  4. There are 11 systems in the body Protects the body from disease Provides oxygen and removes CO2 Breaks down food to simpler molecules Remove wastes from the body Produces reproductive cells

  5. Controls growth, develop-ment, metabolism and reproduction Allows for voluntary movement Supports the body and protects organs Coordinates body’s responses to environment Brings oxygen, nutrients and hormones to cells Provides barrier against infection and injury

  6. Homeostasis and Feedback • Insulin keeps blood glucose low • Guard Cells (X) regulate gas exchange and water loss in plants pancreas

  7. Practice

  8. Practice

  9. Causes of disease: Inherited from parents Materials in environment Personal behavior/nutrition Pathogens (bacteria, fungus, viruses) Immune Response Recognition of pathogen (antigens) Attacked or engulfed by white blood cells Antibodies made for future attacks Vaccines are a small dose of pathogen that helps the white blood cells make antibodies for future attacks Viruses and bacteria can mutate, changing receptors or other structures, making them resistant to drugs or making antibodies no longer effective Immune System Review

  10. Practice

  11. Activity 1 – Study Island • Log on to study island • Complete the Homeostasis REVIEW • Make sure you complete all parts of it (check off the boxes for all of the sections) • Go through the Cells Review HW packet and check your answers • If you are confused about a question, ask! Activity 2 – HW CHECK Extension Check that workbook pgs. 1-42, 145-164 are complete

  12. Summary Let’s review any questions you have from the HW

  13. REFLECTION How do body systems work together during increased muscle activity ? HOMEWORK Regents Practice for Homeostasis
