  3. Introduction • NYCS stands for Namibia Youth Credit Scheme • It is a youth empowerment programme through enterprise development • It targets on Youth from 18 to 35 years of age and mostly committee out of school youth • Programme Duration --5 years

  4. Features of the programme • The targeted beneficiaries are youth (18-35 years) • Operations through the group lending methodology • Training in basic business management • Provision of credit. • Follow-up training, counseling and mentoring. • Access to other products after graduating from the initial package

Development Goals of NYSC • To increase the participation of the youth in the country’s economic affairs. • To promote entrepreneurship among youth through structured and integrated support. • To increase access to business support services (training, counseling, mentoring) • To increase access to financial services among the poor

  6. Components of NYSC • Loan Fund • Training (including mentoring) • Capacity building and coordination • Consultancies, Studies and Technical Assistance • Monitoring and Evaluation

  7. Objectives of NYSC • To create 13,000 jobs • To provide basic business management skills to 5,000. • To establish 5,000 sustainable enterprises. • To build the capacity 200 village banks • To build the capacity of five youth support organizations into Micro Finance Institutions. • To establish a revolving loan fund of N$ 15,000,000 (+1,500,000.00) • To mobilize savings of N$ 10,000,000.

Percentage Achievement of the Programme • Loan fund: 48% (N$7,191,575.00 against N$15,000,000) • Micro Enterprises: 75% (3750 against 5000) • Training on Basic Entrepreneur: 102% (5107 against 5000) • No of Loan Beneficiaries 89% (4498 against 5000) • Jobs created: 38% (5000 against 13000) • Village Banks: 90% 184 against 200 • We are at 81% Percent repayment Rate • Default Rate is at 9% • Loan Delinquency is at 10%

  12. PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION • THE PROGRAMME IS BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN THE 13 REGIONS • MORE YOUTH ARE ENCOURAGE TO BE PART OF THE PROGRAMME • YOUTH ARE MOVING FROM MICRO BUSINESSES TO SME BUSINESSES • MOST YOUTH ARE NOW BANKABLE • THERE IS AN INCREASE IN THE DRIVE OF THE NYCS

RECOMMENDATIONS • INCREASE OF INFORMTION DISSEMINIATION TO THE RURAL YOUTH THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTING AGENCIES • FULL INVOLVMENT OF THE YOUTH OFFICERS ON MONITORING AND TRAINING • SPECIAL YOUTH PROJECT BE CONSIDERED FOR YOUTH ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT • CREATING MORE SCA’S OR YOUTH GROUP TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABLE PROJECT • LOAN FUND SHOULD BE INCREASE AND FULLY MONITORED • MORE PEOPLE SHOULD BE TRAINED
