  2. Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC To obtain that Emergency Contraception could be available for all the women of Latin America and the Caribbean that requires it, is an objective that urges the development of diverse action and strategies.

  3. About the CLAE (LACEC) • Founded in 2000 as a response to the controversy and resistance in the region. • Network of organizations, institutions and individuals working in the field of health, education and sexual and reproductive rights. • Looks to promotes gender equity and equality, the decision-making capacity of adolescents, youth and adults in the context of respect for their human rights. • Coordinated by PIWH (2001-2003); ICMER (2003 -2005), CISTAC (Dec 2005 - Jan 2008); PROMSEX (2008-2009), Colectiva por el Derecho a Decidir (January 2010). Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC Main objectives of CLAE/LACEC: • To support the inclusion of the EC in the norms of reproductive health/family planning / sexual violence / adolescence in the government instances. • To monitor and to make advocacy for the fulfillment of the standardization, the access and availability of the EC in the region. • To disseminate scientific, up-to-date and opportune information on EC, within a gender perspective to all the social and economic sectors of the population.

Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC Two strategic approaches • Dissemination of information to different audiences, based on solid and truthful arguments on women´s rights, advances in the field of medical science and scientific evidence. • Development of partnerships between agencies and individuals from different fields to contribute to facilitating access to Emergency Contraception.

  7. Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC Priorities • To develop an up date diagnostic document about the normative framework in the region in issues as: • Reproductive Health. • Family planning. • Sexual violence. • Adolescence.

Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC Priorities • To support 5 countries in the formulation of sexual and reproductive health and/or sexual violence norms, that include EC: • Costa Rica: Family planning and sexual violence norms. • El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panamá: sexual violence norms.

Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC Priorities • To develop an index CLAE (ICLAE) of access to Emergency Contraception in order to facilitate the monitoring of public policies: registration, access, consumption, consultations in public services, etc. • To monitor two cases per region with organizations that would be willing to apply for the ICLAE. • To achieve the incorporation of the ICLAE in the Observatories of sexuality, gender, health, etc. in Latin America

  10. Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC Priorities • To strengthen the capacity of Consortium members in the promotion and implementation of the CLAE/LACEC strategies. • Training process (advocacy, medical advances, normative framework). • Meetings. • Electronic communication and networks.

  11. Consorcio Latinoamericano de Anticoncepción de Emergencia CLAE/LACEC Other interest • To increase the CLAE/LACEC membership and having to have stronger presence in the Franco-Anglophone Caribbean. • To develop a legal network with the participation of people working for CLAE/LACEC members. • Continue and strengthen the coordination with the other regional EC consortia.
