  3. Rules • Treat materials and other students with respect • No food or open drinks (must have a lid on it) • Always have a pass if coming during class time • Sign in upon entry at the computer • Use indoor voices as not to disturb others • Make sure to properly check out all materials

  4. Using computers in the media center • When student login information is active, you may begin to come to the media center to use computers! Teachers: please sign up with Ms. Sparks or Ms. Erica! • Times when computers can be used: before school (on Monday/Wednesday/Friday), with a pass (as long as there is one available) during the school day, after school (on Tuesday/Thursday) • Use for school/academic purposes • Keep computer areas clean and neat • Log out after each use • Save to a flash/jump drive • Follow FSD3 Internet Use Policies • Ask Ms. Sparks or Ms. Erica for help with technological issues (Don’t try to fix it yourself!)

  5. printing • The library printer is now working. If you need to print something academic (a reasonable amount of pages) in black and white ink, ask Ms. Sparks or Ms. Erica. • If you need to print in color (the color printer is not yet working), you will have to pay a small fee. • No excessive (over 15 pages per assignment) or unreasonable printing (pictures of Drake or Luke Bryan for your bedroom wall, etc.)will be allowed. • The media center reserves the right to say “NO” if you are printing something inappropriate! Yes NO

Using the media center • You are welcome to come to the media center to: • Read a book, magazine, or newspaper quietly • Choose a book or browse the resources • Use the computer for school work/print • Work on projects/assignments • Speak to Ms. Sparks or Ms. Erica • Discuss current events, ideas, books, etc. • Play chess • Admire the student artwork on display • Socialize before school quietly and respectfully • Attend organized classes, meetings, or special events

  7. Checking out books • Our computer program/system that stores our catalog is called Destiny. These are the records of what’s in our collection! You can use Destiny to search for books, place holds, etc.

  8. How can students hold a book? • 1) Log into Destiny using the same username/password for your computer login, search for the book you wish to put on hold by title or author, then under the red tab that says “Out”, click “Place on hold”. • 2) To “Unhold” a book, ask Ms. Sparks or Ms. Erica.

  9. How many books can students check out? • TWO BOOKS • OR ONE Audio/visual and ONE BOOK

  10. How long can I keep books? • Three Weeks (after which an overdue fee will be charged) • If you wish to renew your book, you may do so by bringing it into the media center before or by the due date and speaking to Ms. Sparks or Ms. Erica. • If someone else has requested a hold for that book, we will make a determination on a case by case basis.

  11. How do I turn books back in? • In the ‘BOOK RETURN’ drop! This is located to the right beside the entrance!

  12. How do I find a good book to read? • Using Destiny Search • Checking out the new books section • Asking someone! • Looking on websites like the LCHS Library Site • OR this KDL Series Database: • http://ww2.kdl.org/libcat/whatsnext.asp

  13. Overdue Books and fines • You may not check out ANY books if you have an overdue fine, book, or an unpaid fee. • Note: If you do not pay your fines here, they WILL follow you to graduation!

  14. How do I find the books? • A Call Number • Fiction = FIC and first three letters of author’s last name, such as: FIC SPA (for Sparks) • Nonfiction = Dewey Decimal SystemNumber and first three letters of title or author’s last name, such as: • 398.2 GRI (for Grimm)

  16. Activities and Events • Open Early @ 7:30 = Mon., Weds., Fri. • Open Late until 5:00 = Tues., Thurs. • Sept. 21-27, 2014 = Banned Books Week • October 13-18 = Teen Read Week • Teen Book Club = Interest Meeting TBA (Let Ms. Sparks or Ms. Erica know you’re interested!)
