  2. The earthquakes An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The seismicity, seismism or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time.

  3. Affects At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacement of the ground. When the epicenter of a large earthquake is located offshore, the seabed may be displaced sufficiently to cause a tsunami. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides, and occasionally volcanic activity. People might die or loose their family.

  4. Solutions Many methods have been developed for predicting the time and place in which earthquakes will occur. We can prepare or move away from the place that the earthquake might be occur. Also the objective of earthquake engineering is to foresee the impact of earthquakes on buildings and other structures and to design such structures to minimize the risk of damage.

  6. Possible Solution Loss of life can be avoided through emergency planning, education, and the construction of buildings that sway rather than break under the stress of an earthquake.

  7. Result More and more buildings collapsed and damaged. The government lost their power and money. People might die or lose their family. Citizens are in panic. They cannot believe the scientists any more.
