Location and accesibility • Iasi is located Northeastern Romania, the cultural capital of the region of Moldova. • Iasi is directly accessible through trains coming straight from Bucharest, and many other major cities like Cluj. It can also be reached by Buses or Maxi Taxis from most towns in Moldova. Even flights with Tarom and Angel Airlines (from Monday – Friday) are available from Bucharest. There are direct flights to Iasi International Airport from Austria (Vienna), Germany (Frankfurt), Italy (Bologna), Spain (Madrid) and Switzerland (Geneva, and Zurich).

  3. Geographical/Physical Features • The surrounding country is made up of uplands and woods, featuring monasteries and parks. Iasi has vineyards and gardens and stands partly on hills and in a valley. It is also a common belief that Iasi is built on seven hills, which may be called the Seven Hills of Iasi: Cetățuia, Galata, Copou-Aurora, Bucium-Păun, Șorogari, Repedea and Breazu. The woodlands on mountains surrounding Iasi are used a lot for hiking, on hiking routes.

Climate • The climate of Iasi is temperate continental climate which means that summers are dry and hot, reaching 23 degrees Celsius on average in July and sometimes even 35 – 40 degrees Celsius, while there are very cold winters which have an average of -3 degrees Celsius in January. There is also a lot of snow fall.

Attractions and Features of Iasi: The palace of culture: This building hosts 4 different kinds of Museums: Moldavian Museum of History, The Moldavian Museum of Ethnography, The Museum of Art, “Stefan Procopiu” Museum of Science and Technology, and“Gheorghe Asachi” District Library in the North-East side of the building. This is the main attraction point of Iasi. The building seen today was built 1906 and opened as the Palace of Culture in 1926 by Ferdinand of Hohenzollern. Cucuteni 5000 Takes place in June every year in Copou Parc and is one of the most interesting pottery markets in the country.

  8. Attractions and Features of Iasi: • Monasteries and Churches: Iasi is already worth to be visited for its beautiful churches and monasteries. For example we have the oldest church in Iasi, Saint Nicholas Church was founded by Stefan cel Mare in 1492. As well as the Golia Monastery, which was rebuilt in 1650 by Italian craftsmen. There is also the Church of the Three Hierarchs (constructed 1637 - 1639), which is highlighted as a must-see in every guidebook. • Copou Park • This park is the oldest park in Iasi and has a special tree called the Eminescu linden tree, dedicated to one of Romania’s greatest poets: MihaiEminescu. It is said Eminescu came often to this park, and especially this tree, to write poetry. The park is located on Copou hill.

  9. Attractions and Features of Iasi: • Saint Parascheva’s relics: Every year mid October is the time for religious pilgrimage in Iasi, which attracts up to 1.000.000 people.

  10. Final Facts: • Last but not least. Some more ending but important facts about Iasi: • The university of Iasi was founded on Nov 7 1860 and is considered to be the first and oldest university in the whole country of Romania. • Another interesting and unique museum is the Theatre Museum, the only one in the whole country. You can admire all kinds of interesting costumes, decorations and other theatre equipment showing the evolution of theatre in Romania from the very beginning.
