Examples f bivalves are oysters, mussels ,clams and scallops • Two adaptations that bivalves have/use are the shell and the adductor muscle for protection • Adaptation #1 Definition: The adductor muscle is attached at the narrow end of the bivalve. It allows the shell to close tightly to protect it from predators • Draw a picture: • Example: a clam has an adductor muscle that it uses to protect itself from predators that attempt to pry it open. Adaptation #2 Definition: the shell is the hard outer layering of the bivalve to protect the mantle and the internal organs within Draw a picture: Example: The oyster has two shells that protect its internal organs from predators
