  5. München Location München (or Munich) is located in southeast Germany in the state of Bayern. It is the capital of Bayern.

  6. Munich statistics • Population: 1,321,818 as of 2009. • Area: 119.9 square miles. • Munich is known for beer gardens, lots of art, several universities, and its famous German cuisine which includes foods like sausage, potatoes, salad, and sauerkraut.

  7. Munich attractions • Munich is home of Oktoberfest. The annual event is 16 days long during September and October. It is a festival which includes lots of beer, food, and parades and celebrations.

  8. Attractions cont. • Marienplatz: Munich’s central square. Home to several old buildings, churches, and landmarks. It is also home to Munich’s Town Hall.

  9. Attractions cont. • English Garden: This is Munich’s largest park. It is larger than Central Park and is home to lots of nice scenery, as well as many traditional German beer gardens.

  10. Attractions cont. • Residence Palace of Munich: The former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs today is one of Europe’s best museums. It houses over 130 rooms of antique art.

  11. Attractions cont. • BMW Headquarters and Museum: Home to the German automaker BMW. Contains a museum which showcases the maker’s vehicles.

  12. Munich Fun Facts • Munich was host of the 1972 Summer Olympics. • Home to Bayern Munich FC, Germany’s most popular football club. • About 80 percent of the city was destroyed during World War II, but the city has been restored back to original form.
