  1. Citizens of Vermilion County, It is my pleasure to announce that Vermilion County was recently awarded United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Brownfield Assessment Grants for use on a community-wide basis. In cooperation with Foth Infrastructure and Environment, LLC, located in Champaign, the County will use the grants to investigate Brownfield properties throughout the community and identify a select few to be remediated or cleaned up to allow for future redevelopment or utilization opportunities. Vermilion County and Foth will collaboratively identify, evaluate, and select specific properties that will utilize the grant monies. During this process, a property inventory database will be established. The database will serve as a compilation of possible Brownfield properties for this grant as well as future grants awarded to the County. I would like to welcome you to the official Vermilion County Brownfield project website. The purpose of this site is not only to provide the citizens of Vermilion County with a convenient way to keep track of the project, but also to offer an opportunity for the residents to have their voices heard. By completing the Potential Brownfield Site Inventory Survey on this website, you can nominate potential sites to be among those chosen for assessment during the course of this project. We encourage you to submit surveys for any site that you feel may qualify as a Brownfield. All candidate sites that are nominated will be evaluated equally according to predetermined criteria set forth by the Vermilion County Health Department. Please feel free to explore the many aspects this website has to offer. Links to various Vermilion County and Foth websites are on the right side of the page while useful project links are located on the left. The Project Pictures link on the left allows the public to view project related pictures that are posted throughout the life of the project. The Project Calendar conveniently displays upcoming project tasks/milestones and times for public meetings that can be attended by any interested residents. The Presentations link will direct the viewer to any PowerPoint or video presentation that has been posted by Foth or the Vermilion County Health Department. Clicking on the Project Status or Meetings links will provide the viewer with easy access to posted documents concerning the overall status of the project or public meetings, respectively. Citizens can nominate possible Brownfield sites by submitting the survey located in the Nominate a Site link. If there are any further questions, comments, or concerns you can click on the Contacts link on the left side of the page to access the contact information for the key project team members. Thank you for your participation which will help us make this project a success. Sincerely, Vermilion County Health Department Shirley Hicks Public Health Administrator
