  2. A1 Requirements Analysis • Interview select MYORG staff to determine precise information requirements. This also assures staff “Buy-In.” • Surveyed existing MYORG materials to determine space requirements and validate floor loading • Re-certified journal requirements (Methodologies) • Determined furniture and supply requirements • Identified electronic resource requirements (databases, CD-ROMs, IOLS, hardware/software)

A2 Developing external contacts • Established points of contact/vendors for services (e.g., Online services -DIALOG, Proquest; library support software, journal subscriptions, book procurement) • Investigate Inter-Library Loan Services • Interacted with other Libraries (visits, invitations, etc.) • Joined (or organize) a Library Consortium

A3 Administration/Management • Developed budget • Identified tasks and how they will be accomplished (Selection, Acquisition, Claiming, Cataloging, Shelving, Circulation, Reference, Inter-Library Loan, Training, Gift and Exchange, Collection Development, Depository Libraries, Electronic/Virtual Library) • Determined personnel requirements/Prepare job descriptions • Recruit for new position(s)

B1 Acquisition of External Services • Prepare solicitation of bids for journals • Order library support software (Integrated Online Library System/IOLS) • Contract for online databases (DIALOG, Proquest, Factiva, etc.) • Contract for Inter-Library Loan services • Contract for furniture and supplies

  6. B2 Internal Activities • Install furniture and supplies • Establish “sub-libraries” as appropriate • Move books/journals • Link and test digital resources (IOLS, online, hardware/software) • Obtain existing (catalog/patron) files and load into IOLS (avoid rekeystroking)

B3 Training • Train staff on IOLS • Train existing personnel in new Library/Knowledge Management Center tasks (Selection, Acquisition, Claiming, Cataloging, Shelving, Circulation, Reference, Inter-Library Loan, Training, Gift and Exchange, Collection Development, Depository Libraries, Electronic/Virtual Library) • Train staff in use of online databases

  8. B4 Administration/Management • Develop survey forms and reports • Develop promotional material • Develop core documents (User Manual, Collection Development Manual, Operations Manual, etc.) • Attend appropriate Library/Knowledge Management professional meetings (e.g., LIDA)

  9. C1 Operations • Provide conventional services • Utilize IOLS • Provide online services (DIALOG, Proquest, Factiva, etc.), develop SDIs

C2 Administration/Management • Fully staff Library and Knowledge Management Center and fulfill functions (Management, Selection, Acquisition, Claiming, Cataloging, Shelving, Circulation, Reference, Inter-Library Loan, Training, Gift and Exchange, Collection Development, Depository Libraries, Electronic/Virtual Library, computer operations) • Continually train MYORG staff • Attend professional library/information science meetings to promote the center. • Assume responsibilities and role in appropriate Library Network • Reevaluate
