  1. NOTE: This is NOT the Patriotic Essay Contest...That is sponsored by the Fourth Degree! IMPORTANT: Make sure you are using the current theme! Eligibility This contest is open to all Catholic students in grades 8-12 during the current school year Rules and Regulations Essays must reflect the assigned theme and topic and be submitted by the published deadline Essay must be the original work of the contestant Essay must be typed on 8 ½”x11” paper, single sided, double spaced, with one line margins. Essay must be between 500 and 750 words long Name of student should appear ONLY the entry form The entry form should be stapled to the essay KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIPESSAY CONTEST

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP ESSAY CONTEST Categories There will be one winner in each grade level at the Council, Diocesan, State and International contests Each contestant will compete against contestants in their same grade level Judging Essays will be judged on a 100-Point scoring system. 20 Points for Overall impression - How well does the essay explain the stand of the writer regarding the topic 30 Points for Content - How clearly is the theme presented? 20 Points for Grammar - How well is the essay written with respect to sentence, structure, paragraph construction and spelling? 30 Points for Style - Does the essay show creativity, imagination and development of the topic in a compelling style?

  3. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP ESSAY CONTEST How to Conduct a Council-Level Contest Organize your program and prepare to implement your plans early in the Fraternal Year. Publicize and conduct program through public and private schools, keeping in mind only Catholic students can participate in the program Publicize Program through local Church and council bulletins. Publicize program through CCD Programs and Youth Organizations. Order Essay Contest Kits Online Or by mail at the beginning of the fraternal year using Form EA-KIT (Deadline to order is September 1, 2014).

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP ESSAY CONTEST Program Deadlines September 1, 2014 – Deadline for councils to order essay contest kit from Supreme January 31, 2015 - Deadline for councils to submit their winning entries to the Diocesan Administrator January 31, 2015 – Deadline for councils to submit Essay Contest Participation Form 4216 to Supreme AND the State Youth Director February 28, 2015 - Deadline for Diocesan Administrators to submit winning entries to State Youth Director March 21, 2015 - State Poster Contest in Houma Winners 1st Place winners in each grade level at the diocesan level will receive a plaque. 1st Place winners at the state level will receive a plaque and a check for $200.00. 2nd Place winners at the state level will receive a certificate and a check for $100.00. Awards for the council level winners are at the discretion of the council.
