  2. What is sexting? • “The sending of sexually explicit photos, images, text messages, or e-mails by using a cell phone or other mobile device” • Up to 20% of teenagers have sent or received a sext • 8 in 10 sexters are under 18 yrs old

Dangers of sexting • PA law states that first offense of sexting is a second degree misdemeanor • Falls under child pornography offense (if under 18) • Being charged with sexting will ruin relationships, reputations, job/education opportunities, and futures • The sender can’t control who sees a sext • Sexts can get out of control very quickly

  4. Legal ramifications Matter harmful to minors, dissemination; possession -Cannot send materials considered "harmful" to minors or have these materials in possession with intent to send them to minor=5 years in prison/2.5 years in jail, $1,000-10,000 fine Posing /exhibiting a child in a state of nudity or sexual conduct -Cannot knowingly hire, coerce, solicit, entice, procure, use, cause, encourage or permit someone under 18 years old to be photographed naked, partially naked or in a sex act=10-20 yrs in prison, $10,000-50,000 fine

  5. Stop sexting • Get consequences of sexting per school district in the student handbook • Offer sexual education classes in schools • If you receive a sext, delete it quickly, and report it to police, or relatives (if you know the person/people involved)
