  2. ResumeQuiz • You resume has to sell you in short order. • When describe work experience, the paragragh style is prefered. • It’s perfectly acceptable to use personal pronouns (I, me, my) on a resume. • Action verbs need to be included in all resumes.

  3. 5. The best resumes have specific job accomplishments rather than job descriptions. 6. Having any typos(打字稿,打印错误) or misspellings on a resume are lethal(致命的,破坏性的). 7. You should not try to put all the information about you into the resume.

  4. Purpose of a Resume • A successful resume • shows how your experience and educationrelate to the job you’re applying for • persuades the supervisor that you are someone worth talking to • gets you an interview

  5. Killer resume or “killed” resume • A job often attract 100 to 1000 resumes • 10 to 20seconds is all the time you have to persuade a prosperctive employer to read further

  10. Step 1. Collect Your Facts • What facts do you need? • Names of past employer • Dates of past employment • Degrees and certificates • Volunteer activities • Association memberships • Special skills

  11. Step 2. Plan Your Resume • Decide what you’re applying for • Use action verbs • What is the employer looking for? • Emphasize the skills needed in the job

  13. 1. Heading • Your contact information • First Last Name • Street Address • City, State, Zip • Phone (cell/ Home) • Email • Avoid nicknames • Use both current and permanent addresses • Choose an e-mail address that sounds professional

  14. 2. Objective • It should be a sentence or two about your employement goals • Be specific about the job you want • Relates your existing skills directly to the job. • Ex.To obtain an entry-level position within a financial institution requiring strong analytical and organizational skills

Education • New graduate without a lot of work experience should list their educational information first • Begin with the highest level of educational achievement • University attented & Degrees • Major/ Minors • Date of program completion Ex. B.A. Business Administration, July 2011 A.A. Business English, July 2009 Guangzhou Open University

  16. 3. Education— Relavant Courses • List relevant courses that • Help you stand out from the applicants • Provide you with specific skills or knowledge • In the education section • Japanese (2 semesters) • Computer Science • Business Writing • Business Law

  17. 4. Work Experience • Describe your work responsibilities with emphasis on specific skills and achievements • Use action verbs to describe your job duties • Include your work experience in reverse chronological(时间倒序方式)

Skills • Include skills related to the position you are applying for Management skills Leadership skills Language skills Computer skills • Coordinated efforts between customer needs and group essential • Served as social coordinator for my sorority program council • Proficient in written and spoken German • Fluent in English • Software: Ms Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher

  20. 6. Activities and Honors • Include relevant activities and honors to show your interests, motivations and skills (e.g. organizational, leadship, interpersonal, etc.) • Ex. • President of Comedy Club, 2009-present • Stationmaster, Guangzhou Open University Broadcast Station, 2010-present

  21. 7. References • Ask people if they are willing to serve as references before giving their names to a potentical employer. • It is enough to state that “References are available upon request.” • Choose professional references (employers and professors who know you and your work)
