  2. LDSS3 The SAC recommmends that LDSS3 be restored to facility instruments status. LDSS3 is the 3rd most productive (paper count) Magellan instrument LDSS3 is an alternative to IMACS, which is already vastly oversubscribed With FIRE and FourStar coming on line on Baade, available IMACS time can only shrink, oversubscription will worsen Each Magellan telescope needs an optical imager PI-ship is to be shared between Edo & John M. (TBD) Support is to be provided either by Carnegie or Magellan (Alan U., Tyson & Ian) LDSS3 is a low-impact/stable instrument Would share Clay NasW port w/ MIRAC4 – continuously available when not locked out by f/15 2ndary Will change chiller system from CryoTiger to LN2 to further simplify maintenance Technically, only violates 5 facility instrument rule when MIKE is in operation Issue of tithe to Durham is TBD Magellan SAC•Pasadena•13/14 Mar 2010•ASz
